Holistic Nutrition

Holistic naturopathic nutrition is based on the principle that the body requires optimal nutritional intake of macronutrients and micronutrients to support the innate healing mechanisms of the body, so promoting wellness and preventing disease.

Holistic nutrition integrates the science of nutrition with the principles of natural medicine by integrating respect for the traditional and empirical approach to nutritional knowledge, focussing on the importance of food as medicine and understanding that wholefoods are greater than the sum of their parts. It underlines the importance of a diet based on natural, whole foods with an emphasis on quality, fresh, organic and local produce where possible.

Careful attention is given to the variability in nutritional status of each individual taking into account their physical requirements such as age, gender, genetic predispositions and environmental influences alongside mental, emotional and social factors.

The application of holistic nutritional principles may include the use of functional nutritional assessments, diet therapy, detoxification programs, fasting strategies and nutritional supplementation to restore the body to health and homoeostasis.

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”
